R. Jason Richards
Mr. Richards holds a B.A. degree in political science and a B.A. degree in economics, both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a M.A. in history from the University of Colorado, a J.D. from the John Marshall Law School, and an LL.M. (Master of Laws) in health law from DePaul University College of Law.
In law school, Mr. Richards was an editor of the John Marshall Journal of Computer & Information Law, and was twice recognized by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin for his contributions in the area of legal scholarship. He was also a three-time Allen H. Schwartz Scholarship recipient, a recipient of the Kamensky & Rubenstein Scholarship, a recipient of the Ambassador of the Year Award, a faculty research assistant, and a contributor to the law school's newspaper.
Over the years, Mr. Richards has published over a dozen articles in various law reviews and scholarly journals, including the Northern Illinois Law Review, John Marshall Law Review, Santa Clara Law Review, John Marshall Journal of Computer & Information Law, The Colorado Lawyer, Florida Bar Journal, and National Law Journal.
His articles have been cited as authority in dozens of academic journals and by New York's highest court (in dissent) and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. He also served as the lead plaintiff in the U.S. Supreme Court case of Richards v. Jefferson County, 116 S. Ct. 1761 (1996).
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Richards managed a solo practice in Colorado. He has also served as a deputy district attorney, where he prosecuted both felony and misdemeanor crimes and successfully defended the state's position before the Colorado Supreme Court in People v. Cardenas, 62 P.3d 621 (Colo. 2002).
Mr. Richards is licensed to practice before all Florida and Colorado state courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
He is a member of the Escambia / Santa Rosa County Bar Association and the American Association for Justice.
Mr. Richards limits his practice to the areas of insurance bad faith, wrongful death and personal injury. He is currently involved in the following projects: Mold, Viagra, Ephedra, PPA, Fen-Phen, Shell/Texaco Bad Gasoline Litigation, and Ford Truck/Door Latch litigation.
